Amazon to Expand and Create Job Opportunities in Nigeria

Over the years, Amazon is in the process of world domination, taking its business to different parts of the world. Reports suggest that Amazon has been secretly hiring salespeople and engineers in Lagos, further hinting at a possible expansion in their streaming and cloud business in that part of Africa.

According to rumors, Amazon has also already hired a marketing agency for their first push of Amazon Prime video subscription in Nigeria. So, while you are indulging in the no deposit bingo online, chances are that Amazon’s expansion isn’t going to stop anytime soon.

Amazon’s expansion of the Prime Video Services in Nigeria started in 2016, as a global rollout. The tech giant also offers the Amazon Web services that have been availed by multiple local businesses in the country. But, the point is that Amazon doesn’t have a physical presence in the country.

As reported on Rest of World, an Amazon spokesperson further reiterated saying that they don’t have any changes in regards to the location of the teams or any expansion that they are planning to further grow Amazon business.

However, there are ongoing reports that Amazon has made quite a lot of investments in Nigeria over the last few years. They have invested in the original production and a few exclusive license pacts with a few popular Nigerian filmmakers. Later in their reports, Amazon also clarified that they have hired Insight Publicis to further spearhead one of their advertisement campaigns.

In their official statement, Amazon reported that the company is investing in the region and that’s exactly what will be represented in the advertising campaigns.

Africa has been a major contributor to the streaming economy, especially for leading platforms like Disney+, Netflix, Amazon, etc. Reports suggest that Amazon is in the process of expanding its Amazon Web Services cloud business across Nigeria. The use of AWS is growing at an exponentially faster rate, so it isn’t surprising that start-ups are leveraging it at heightened extents.

However, setting up the AWS cloud business won’t be easy and might experience limitations from the local businesses. The main reason behind this is because AWS charges in dollars and not in the local currency of the Naira.

As more and more Africans start to get on the bandwagon of digitization efforts, the demand for digital services and the infrastructure will increase too. Amazon could potentially bridge that gap.

Nigeria’s latest data protection regulations are bringing in a lot of investments in the field of cloud businesses, driving more investments and data centers in the country. Ever since Amazon launched its cloud data center in 2020, there are reports about further expansion of the company, including the hyper-scale data center.

So, at this rate, no one is surprised that Amazon is considering further expanding its business and warping in more customers in the area. However, these are currently rumors and reports. Nothing has been made official yet, so we’d have to wait until we get an official confirmation.
