Senate and House has postponed resumption of plenary sittings.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Senate and House of Representatives have officially postponed their resumption of plenary sittings from Monday, April 29, 2025, to Tuesday, May 6, 2025.

This was disclosed in separate internal memoranda issued on April 20 by the Clerk to the Senate, Andrew Ogbonna Nwoba, and the Clerk to the House of Representatives, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, and addressed to all members of the respective chambers.

Both arms of the National Assembly had initially adjourned plenary on March 27, 2025, to enable lawmakers participate in the Easter and Sallah celebrations. The latest postponement is aimed at allowing legislators to remain in their constituencies during the International Workers’ Day public holiday in early May.

In the memo to senators, Nwoba stated, “Distinguished Senators, I am directed to inform you that the resumption of plenary sittings of the Senate, earlier scheduled for Monday, 29th April 2025, has been rescheduled to Tuesday, 6th May 2025. This postponement is made to allow Distinguished Senators stay with their constituents during the International Workers’ Day public holiday and to further enhance constituency engagements.”

He also expressed regrets over any inconvenience caused by the change.

In a corresponding communication, Dr. Danzaria noted in his memo to House members, “I am directed to respectfully inform you that the resumption of plenary sittings of the House of Representatives, earlier scheduled for Monday, 29th April 2025, has been rescheduled to Tuesday, 6th May 2025.”

He explained that the adjustment is in line with the representative mandate of the House and aimed at strengthening constituency relations during the holiday period.

Both clerks urged members to take note of the new date and act accordingly.

This extension of recess means the National Assembly will now reconvene for legislative business a full week later than earlier planned.
