The Group Managing Director/CEO, Dame Dr Adaora Umeoji, said the next generation of global AI champions can and should come from Africa. She urged participants not to fear AI but to embrace it, and to build ethically and think big, whether they are developing solutions for a farm, clinic, classroom or factory.
She also cited the bank’s investments in digital infrastructure, including its Zenith Intelligent Virtual Assistant (ZIVA), and said its fintech subsidiary, FinoPay, developed the SMART AfCFTA Portal to support intra-African trade.

Background
The Tech Fair was conceived by Ovia to support young Nigerians through technology. Previous winners include JumpnPass (a self-checkout solution for retail), CreditChek (AI and open banking for credit verification), TrustLoop (2025 Hackathon winner, with digital identity verification) and Cubbes Technologies Limited (2025 Startup Pitch winner, with an AI-powered education platform).
The bank said the Future Innovators Challenge extends that support to secondary school students, as part of efforts to identify and nurture technology talent early.
