Aisha Yesufu has dumped ADC for NDC and declared bid for FCT Senate seat in 2027 elections.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that prominent activist, Aisha Yesufu, has officially resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), while declaring her intention to contest for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.

Yesufu made the announcement in a statement shared on her X handle on Wednesday, citing a renewed conviction about Nigeria’s political future and her alignment with the vision of former presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

According to her, recent political developments have deepened her resolve to support a movement she believes represents the country’s path to progress.

“The next couple of days will define the future of this nation. This deeper understanding is why I resigned from the ADC to join the NDC, as I follow the leadership of HE Peter Obi, who embodies the hope and aspiration of a Nigeria that works,” she stated.

She explained that her earlier decision to support Obi influenced her move to the ADC, noting that her latest defection is a continuation of that commitment.

“When I give my word, I keep it. My decision to support HE Peter Obi first led me to the ADC. To continue to honour that promise, I am joining the NDC,” she added.

Beyond switching parties, Yesufu confirmed her political ambition, revealing plans to contest for the FCT senatorial seat under the NDC platform.

“This time, I am joining the NDC not just as a member but as one running for the FCT Senatorial seat,” she said.

The activist also noted that she ensured a smooth exit from the ADC, expressing gratitude to party members and leaders for the opportunity to serve in various capacities.

“I was fortunate to work with great and amazing people whose goal was a better country. I am grateful for the opportunity to have served as sub-committee chair, deputy committee chair, and secretary at various levels,” she said, describing the experience as invaluable.

Her defection comes amid ongoing political realignments within Nigeria’s opposition space, following the recent move by Peter Obi and former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to the NDC—a development that has continued to trigger shifts across party lines.
