Wike PDP Faction has denied endorsing Jonathan for 2027 Presidency to challenge Tinubu.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports suggesting it plans to adopt former President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The group described the reports as false, misleading, and unauthorized, insisting that no such move has been approved by the party leadership.
In a statement issued on Friday, the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, urged security agencies to investigate the origin of the claims and prosecute those responsible for what he termed an attempt to create political tension and discredit the party.

The reaction follows reports that an Interim National Working Committee led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki had announced plans to hold a convention in Abuja on Saturday to formally endorse Jonathan as the PDP’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
However, the Wike-backed PDP faction maintained that it had already concluded its primary elections in line with electoral regulations and party guidelines.
According to the faction, Sandy Onor was screened, cleared, and officially presented last week as its presidential candidate for the 2027 poll.
The group also called on Jonathan to publicly distance himself from the reported endorsement plan in order to protect both his reputation and the integrity of Nigeria’s democratic process.
“The party wishes to categorically state that no such convention, meeting, or process has been scheduled, approved, or endorsed by the leadership or any recognised organ of the Peoples Democratic Party,” the statement said.
The faction further urged party members, supporters, stakeholders, and the general public to disregard the reports, describing them as an attempt to create confusion within the political landscape.
Reaffirming its position, the group stated that all its primary elections, including governorship, state assembly, National Assembly, and presidential contests, had been successfully concluded in accordance with the Electoral Act, INEC regulations, and the party’s constitution.
