Tempers flared at the Chaos in the Ring press conference as Portable, Charles Okocha, Mr Real and Idowest traded words ahead of Friday’s blockbuster boxing event in Lagos.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that tensions reached boiling point on Wednesday as the official press conference for Chaos in the Ring descended into dramatic exchanges, setting the stage for Friday’s highly anticipated boxing and entertainment event at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.

What began as a routine media briefing quickly turned into an explosive face-off as celebrity fighters Portable, Charles Okocha, Mr Real and Idowest came together before journalists for the first time ahead of their bouts.

The biggest moment of the event came when Portable, during a heated verbal exchange, knocked over a table, briefly disrupting the proceedings and sending the packed conference room into a frenzy. The incident, captured by television cameras and members of the media, heightened anticipation for Friday night’s showdown.

While Charles Okocha maintained a calm and composed demeanour throughout the event, Portable openly declared his support for fellow artiste Mr Real ahead of his clash with rapper Idowest.

Idowest responded confidently, insisting he was prepared to face both opponents and promising to settle every score inside the ring.

The dramatic exchanges reinforced the unique appeal of Chaos in the Ring, which blends professional boxing, celebrity rivalries and live entertainment into a single sporting spectacle.

Beyond the celebrity clashes, organisers said the event remains committed to promoting professional boxing by providing African fighters with a bigger platform to showcase their talent.

Friday’s fight card will feature several professional contests, including Shiloh Defreitas versus Eric Quarms, Yusuf Adeniji against Rilwan Lawal, Basit Adebayo taking on Said Chino, and Samuel Antwi facing Suleiman Jafaru.

Adding further excitement to the event, EV Automobiles announced it would reward the winners of the two celebrity fights with brand-new electric vehicles.

One electric vehicle will be presented to the winner of the Portable versus Charles Okocha bout, while the second will go to the victor in the Mr Real versus Idowest contest.

Speaking at the press conference, the Founder of Chaos in the Ring and Group Managing Director of Balmoral Group, Dr. Ezekiel Adamu, reiterated the organisation’s commitment to transforming the boxing landscape in Africa.

According to him, the platform was established to create greater opportunities for African boxers while introducing new audiences to the sport through premium entertainment.

“We will not relent until world championship boxing is happening right here in Nigeria,” Adamu declared.

He added that Chaos in the Ring seeks to bridge professional boxing and mainstream entertainment, creating a sustainable platform where athletes can compete on larger stages while attracting broader commercial support.

The event has grown significantly since its inception, with organisers revealing that previous editions generated more than two billion video views and over 4.2 billion digital impressions, helping elevate the profile of Nigerian boxing across Africa and beyond.

This year’s edition has also attracted major corporate support, with Bet9ja joining EV Automobiles among the headline sponsors, reflecting growing commercial confidence in the event.

Organisers expressed optimism that Friday’s edition will further cement Chaos in the Ring’s status as one of Africa’s leading sports entertainment properties, bringing together elite boxing, celebrity matchups and world-class entertainment under one roof.

The 2026 edition of Chaos in the Ring is scheduled to hold on Friday, July 31, at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, where celebrity rivalries and professional boxing contests are expected to headline an action-packed night.
