Atiku has slammed President Tinubu Government over rising hunger, poverty and insecurity in Nigeria.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has criticized the administration of President Bola Tinubu over what he described as worsening hunger, poverty, and insecurity across the country.

Atiku said Nigerians are facing severe economic hardship three years into the Tinubu administration, arguing that the government’s promise of “Renewed Hope” has instead translated into increased suffering and uncertainty for many citizens.

In a statement issued on Friday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, the former vice president expressed concern over soaring food prices, rising inflation, unemployment, and the declining purchasing power of ordinary Nigerians.

According to Atiku, millions of citizens can no longer afford basic necessities, while many small and medium-sized businesses are struggling to survive under current economic conditions.

“Three years ago, President Tinubu promised renewed hope. What Nigerians have received instead is renewed hardship, renewed insecurity, renewed poverty, and renewed hopelessness,” the statement said.

The ADC presidential candidate further lamented that despite working harder, many Nigerians are becoming poorer due to rising living costs and economic pressures.

On security, Atiku cited recent incidents of kidnappings and attacks in parts of the country, including the abduction of schoolchildren in Borno State and the reported kidnapping of pupils and teachers in Oyo State, describing them as evidence of the country’s persistent security challenges.

He urged Nigerians to remain engaged in the democratic process, emphasizing that the ballot remains a powerful tool for demanding accountability and shaping the nation’s future.

Atiku also disclosed that the ADC would soon unveil a comprehensive policy blueprint focused on economic recovery, job creation, healthcare, education, and institutional reforms aimed at addressing Nigeria’s challenges.

Meanwhile, President Tinubu has maintained that his administration is making progress in tackling insecurity and strengthening the nation’s economy.

In a statement marking his third year in office, the president said security remains central to his government’s agenda, noting that security agencies have intensified operations against terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, oil thieves, and other criminal groups.

Tinubu acknowledged that challenges remain but insisted that many communities and highways are becoming safer due to ongoing security interventions and increased investment in intelligence, technology, surveillance, and inter-agency collaboration.

The president assured Nigerians that his administration would continue efforts to restore peace and ensure citizens can live, work, and travel safely across the country.
