FirstBank has sparked global kindness with 2025 Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Week.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that FirstBank, West Africa’s premier financial institution and a leader in financial inclusion, has announced the commencement of its 2025 Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability (CR&S) Week, scheduled to run from October 27 to November 1, 2025. Now in its ninth edition, the annual event reaffirms the Bank’s dedication to community empowerment, environmental sustainability, and the advancement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Under the theme “Start Performing Acts of Random Kindness” (SPARK), the initiative encourages individuals and communities to engage in acts of kindness that promote compassion, inclusion, and positive social change. Through this flagship programme, FirstBank continues to strengthen its legacy of social impact and sustainability across Africa and beyond.

During the CR&S Week, employees across the FirstBank Group including subsidiaries in the UK, Ghana, Guinea, The Gambia, Sierra Leone, DRC, and Senegal, as well as First Pension and First Nominees will volunteer their time and resources to drive community-based projects and humanitarian outreach.

Speaking ahead of the event, Olayinka Ijabiyi, Acting Group Head, Marketing & Corporate Communications at FirstBank, said:

“CR&S Week is about showing up for humanity — proving that even the smallest act of kindness can spark lasting change. Since 2017, our staff have embodied the spirit of SPARK by giving back to society and inspiring others to do the same. Kindness is a currency that never loses its value.”

As part of this year’s activities, FirstBank will plant 20,000 trees in collaboration with the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF), completing the final phase of its pledge to plant 50,000 trees by 2025. This initiative aligns with Nigeria’s 2060 decarbonisation agenda and the Bank’s environmental sustainability goals.

In addition, the Bank will partner with Borno and Katsina States to provide medical interventions and post-care support for women living with Vesicovaginal Fistula (VVF), reinforcing its commitment to SDG 5 – Gender Equality and Women Empowerment.

Throughout the week, FirstBank employees will share messages promoting empathy and civility, while participating in themed webinars, school outreach programmes, and visits to orphanages, IDP camps, and charitable organisations across Nigeria, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the UK.

Since its inception in 2017, FirstBank’s CR&S Week has become a global movement for social impact that unites staff, customers, and partners in championing causes that uplift lives, protect the environment, and foster inclusive growth.
