The hackers, Newsonline reported on Tuesday stole over $600m (£433m) in one the largest cryptocurrency heists ever.

Announcing the unfortunate incident in a tweet on Tuesday, Blockchain site Poly Network said hackers took advantage of a vulnerability in its system to steal thousands of digital tokens.

“The amount of money you have hacked is one of the biggest in defi [decentralised finance] history. Law enforcement in any country will regard this as a major economic crime and you will be pursued,” Poly Network in a tweet said.

“The money you stole are [sic] from tens of thousands of crypto community members, hence the people,” it added.

However, SlowMist disclosed that it got the mailbox, IP and device fingerprints of the attackers through on-chain and off-chain information tracking.

It said further that the attacker’s original funds were in monero (XMR), before it was exchanged with BNB, ETH, MATIC and other tokens used in funding the attack.

It added that it was able to track the identity of the hackers through information it got from a Chinese crypto exchange Hoo.
