Datti Baba-Ahmed has dismissed rift speculation and stated that nobody can come between him and Peter Obi.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, has dismissed suggestions of a rift between himself and former presidential running mate Peter Obi, insisting that their relationship remains cordial despite belonging to different political parties ahead of the 2027 general election.
Datti made the clarification during an interview on Channels Television on Sunday while responding to criticisms surrounding the Labour Party’s performance in his ward and local government area during the 2023 presidential election.

The former vice-presidential candidate stated that no individual or political interest group would be able to create hostility between him and Obi, whom he described as one of the politicians he continues to respect.
According to Datti, although both leaders have since moved in different political directions, their mutual respect and personal relationship remain intact.
“Nobody will cause a problem between me and my boss, Peter Obi. We can be in different parties today but I still have respect for him as someone who governed and someone who doesn’t give shishi,” he said.
Datti further emphasized that political differences should not be interpreted as personal animosity, stressing that he and Obi continue to hold each other in high regard.
“Peter Obi and I have mutual respect for each other, so nobody will come between us,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with both politicians reportedly pursuing separate political platforms following the 2023 electoral cycle.
Datti’s remarks are expected to calm speculation about tensions between the two former Labour Party standard-bearers, whose partnership emerged as one of the major political forces during the 2023 presidential election.
Political observers say the statement underscores the continuing personal rapport between the two leaders despite ongoing shifts within Nigeria’s opposition landscape.
