1. The new Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Olayemi Cardoso has said he will prioritise clearing the apex bank’s backlog of unsettled foreign exchange obligations in the near term. He said this on Tuesday during the screening session of members of the Senate. Cardoso promised to enhance transparency, fix corporate governance, and ensure confidence in the autonomy and integrity of the bank.

2. Nigerian ace singer, Azeez Adeshina Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has spoken up on the death of his former record label signee, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji, aka Mohbad, saying the circumstances surrounding his death will be unveiled in due time. Naira Marley also said he was planning to return to Nigeria to assist the police investigation into Mohbad’s death.

3. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has directed all its affiliates and members to shut down the economy next week Tuesday, October 3, 2023, over the federal government’s failure to meet all its demands. The Presidents of both the NLC and the TUC, Joe Ajaero and Festus Osifo, disclosed this at the Labour House during a press conference held shortly after an emergency National Executive Council meeting.

4. The House of Representatives Speaker on Tuesday decried the security situation in the country. He said the situation remained precarious despite the government’s efforts to address the challenges. Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, in his welcoming speech to lawmakers on the first day of plenary after a break, noted that nevertheless, many successes have been recorded in the battle against insecurity.

5. The federal government has approved the acquisition of initial 12 MD 530 F Cayuse attack helicopters to actualize operationalization of Nigerian Army aviation to effectively tackle the security challenges bedevilling the country. Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja disclosed this in Abuja on Tuesday.

6. Gunmen on Tuesday shot one admission seeker and two students at the Isa Mustapha Agwai l Polytechnic in Lafia, Nasarawa State. It was gathered that the assailants also abducted one female student simply identified as Ajoke, an ND ll student of Science Laboratory Technology.

7. The governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has rejected the ruling of the election petition tribunal affirming the victory of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Rhodes-Vivour, in a statement he personally signed on Tuesday, said the judges of the tribunal erred in law, adding that their judgment suggested that a clear constitutional provision in the electoral process has no meaning.

8. Some yet-to-be-identified assailants have abducted the Chairman of Mgbuka Amazu Market, Onitsha, Anambra State, Chief Enibe Francis, over circumstances said to be related to Monday sit-at-home in the area. It was gathered that the armed hoodlums beat him to a stupor after which they bundled him into a waiting vehicle and drove to an unknown destination.

9. The Special Adviser to the President on Economic Affairs, Tope Fasua, on Tuesday, urged the Central Bank of Nigeria to reduce the number of bureau de change operators in Nigeria from over 5,000 to about 200. Fasua, a leading economist and chief executive officer of Global Analytics Consulting, spoke at an economic policy event organised by the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

10. A landlord identified simply as Michael has allegedly poured hot water on an 11-year-old girl identified only as Princess. It was gathered on Tuesday that the incident happened on Saturday in Mowe, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
