The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar, has said if elected he would ensure empowerment of Nigerian women; this he said would ensure eradication of poverty in the country.
Newsonline reports that the former vice president said women have greater role in eliminating poverty and lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty.
The Waziri of Adamawa who stated this on Tuesday at the 2022 Lagos Business School Annual Lectures in Lagos said, “If you empower women, you will eliminate poverty.”

Speaking on how he would tackle epileptic power supply which economic experts have identified as one of the challenges facing the country’s industrial development Atiku said, “my policy proposal about power generation is to harvest the potential in each geo-political location; ensure diversification in our power generation and transmission capacity. In the end, fully privatize the power infrastructure.”
He disclosed that having been a beneficiary of free education he would ensure the education sector at all levels is well funded. This he said would make education accessible to all Nigerian citizens.
“But for the fact I enjoyed free public education, I would not be where I am today. I will make sure public education is very well-funded and very accessible,” he said.
The PDP presidential candidate further stated that he would run a lean government to reduce the cost of governance which he believes contributes to corruption in governance.
He said if elected he would implement the Oronsaye report on cost of governance by running a small government.
“I, for one, believe in small government. I want a small Government and an effective one.
“The Oronsaye Report (on cutting cost of governance in the face of dwindling economic fortunes) is our baby. If you elect us, we will complete the job.
“The PDP economic reforms recorded significant achievements between 1999-2015. Now you have seen the impact of the people that took over from us. Now, Nigerians can pick between the two. If you give PDP the opportunity, we will perform better than our previous record.” Atiku added.
Atiku Abubakar further said that refineries in the country would be privatized if he become the president. According to him, privatization would help to encourage competition in the oil sector and increase forex and naira value.
“I’m going to privatize our crude oil refineries and make Nigeria the hub of crude oil refining in Africa.
“I want to see a convergence and an elimination of multiple exchange rates. And it is the private sector that suffers. As far as I am concerned, it will be dealt with,” he added.
