Industrial Court Closes Owerri Division Over Abduction

National Industrial Court closes Owerri division over abduction of four workers through a well orchestrated act that has backing of the state government.

 

Newsonline reports that the President of national Industrial court has ordered immediate closure of its Owerri division, following the abduction of four of its workers in the capital city of Imo state.

 

The President, National Industrial Court, Justice Benedict Kanyip, who gave the order stated that the Industrial Court of Owerri division, will not open until further notice, as security of its staff is not guaranteed.

 

In  a statement by the Chief Registrar of the National Industrial Court, Olurotimi Williams Daudu, Kanyip said it has become necessary to take the step to ensure safety of its staff.

 

The statement read, “I have been directed by the Hon. President of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Hon Justice B. B. Kanyip, PhD, to inform you that the Owerri Judicial Division of the Court has been closed down till further notice.

 

“Consequently, all the staff of the judicial division are hereby directed to stay away from work until further notice.”

Newsonline had reported that the four staff, Nze Moses, Akoma Jeremiah, Ikedi Amadi and Chima Emeka Ndukwe,  were said to be abducted after delivering judgement, on Friday, 3, June, in case no in suit no: NICN/OW/16M/2022, between Prince Eze Madumere V Governor of Imo State, Zenith Bank Plc, the Attorney General of Imo state and the Imo state government.

 

The court in a letter addressed to the Inspector-General of Police, the court said the four staff were, “waylaid, abducted and the court’s official vehicle snatched at gunpoints, to unknown destination, in broad daylight, by several men of the Government House reportedly led by one Chinaza Nwaneri and some other heavily armed Mopol Policemen.

 

“Frantic and immediate search was initiated by the registrar who later discovered that the four men above, were whisked to the anti-kidnapping unit of the police command and detained unlawfully and without justifiable cause.”

 

The President of the National Industrial court, Justice Benedict Kanyip, regretted that the IGP was yet to ensure the release of the four staff who were abducted for performing their constitutional duties.
