Lagos residents have cried out as IKEDC areas remained without power for days.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that residents across several communities under the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company have raised the alarm over a prolonged power outage that has left homes and businesses without electricity since Sunday.

The continued blackout has triggered widespread complaints on X, formerly Twitter, as affected customers accuse IKEDC of failing to provide adequate information or restore supply.

Some residents said the outage had disrupted household activities, businesses and access to essential services, while increasing expenditure on fuel and alternative sources of electricity.

An X user, The Notorious J.A.G, wrote: “No light since Sunday afternoon. IKEDC, the judgement of God must overcome you people.”

Another resident, identified as Barney, described the electricity distribution company’s service as unacceptable and criticised its handling of customers’ complaints.

“Like if you’re worse than IKEDC your life no fit ever better,” the user wrote.

A third user, Nations Call Me Blessed, questioned the prolonged outage, writing: “IKEDC, what’s going on?”

The complaints reflect growing frustration among customers who say they have received little or no explanation about the cause of the disruption or when electricity will be restored.

IKEDC’s online fault-reporting platform currently lists faults affecting parts of its network, including an outage linked to an XLPE cable fault in Alimosho. However, it was unclear whether the listed faults accounted for all the communities currently experiencing prolonged outages.

As of the time of filing this report, no comprehensive public statement addressing the widespread complaints had been sighted on the company’s official communication channels.

Affected residents have called on IKEDC, the Transmission Company of Nigeria, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and other relevant authorities to urgently investigate the disruption and restore power.

They also urged the distribution company to provide clear and regular updates explaining the cause of the outage, the communities affected and the expected restoration timeline.

With businesses and households already struggling with high operating and living costs, prolonged electricity disruptions impose an additional burden through spending on petrol, diesel and alternative energy sources.

IKEDC should act urgently to restore supply, communicate transparently with affected customers and ensure that recurring technical faults are addressed before they cause further hardship.
