UK has warned citizens against travel to Abuja among 30 other Nigerian States.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the United Kingdom has issued a sweeping security advisory warning its citizens against travelling to several parts of Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory.
In its latest Nigeria travel advice published on Thursday, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office advised against all travel to parts of 11 states and all but essential travel to parts of 19 states and Abuja.
The advisory, updated on August 20, 2026, warned travellers that no journey could be guaranteed safe and urged anyone visiting Nigeria to research their destination carefully.

The FCDO advised against all travel to Borno, Yobe, Adamawa and Gombe states in the North-East, as well as Katsina and Zamfara states in the North-West.
In southern Nigeria, the warning covers the riverine areas of Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states.
The UK government defined the affected riverine areas as river and swamp locations accessible by boat but not by road.
The advisory also warned against all but essential travel to Bauchi State, alongside Kaduna, Kano, Kebbi, Jigawa and Sokoto states.
In the North-Central region, the same restriction applies to Niger, Kogi, Plateau, Taraba, Kwara and Benue states.
The FCDO also advised against all but essential travel to the Federal Capital Territory, including Abuja.
In the South-East and South-South, the warning covers Abia, Anambra and Imo states, as well as the non-riverine areas of Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers.
“No travel can be guaranteed safe,” the FCDO cautioned.
The UK government urged its citizens to obtain appropriate travel insurance covering their destinations, planned activities and potential emergency expenses.
It warned that travelling against official advice could invalidate a traveller’s insurance policy.
“Your travel insurance could be invalidated if you travel against advice from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office,” it stated.
The latest advisory also contains information about alleged in-vitro fertilisation and fertility-treatment scams, overseas adoption, entry requirements, health risks and emergency assistance in Nigeria.
