Zenith Bank has partnered LAWMA and LASWA for environmental clean-up to mark World Environment Day 2026.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Zenith Bank Plc has reinforced its commitment to environmental sustainability with a two-phase clean-up initiative in Lagos State to commemorate World Environment Day 2026.

The exercise, themed “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future,” was carried out in partnership with the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), underscoring the bank’s dedication to environmental protection and climate action.

The first phase of the initiative took place on June 3, 2026, with Zenith Bank employees participating in a clean-up exercise along Ajose Adeogun Street in Victoria Island, Lagos. Staff members cleared waste from the area, engaged residents on proper waste disposal practices and promoted environmental responsibility within the community.

The second phase was held on June 4, 2026, at the Falomo Waterways in Ikoyi, where Zenith Bank collaborated with LAWMA and LASWA on a waterways clean-up campaign aimed at removing marine debris and improving the cleanliness of Lagos waterways.

The exercise also aligned with broader efforts by the Lagos State Government to strengthen climate resilience and promote sustainable environmental practices.

Speaking on the initiative, the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank Plc, Dame Dr. Adaora Umeoji, said environmental sustainability remains a core pillar of the bank’s operations.

“At Zenith Bank, sustainability is integral to how we operate. Clearing our streets and our waterways is a practical reminder that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility – and one we are proud to take up alongside LAWMA and LASWA,” she said.

According to her, the clean-up exercises demonstrate the bank’s commitment to preserving communities, supporting climate action and encouraging greater environmental consciousness among stakeholders.

She added that Zenith Bank would continue to align its operations with global environmental standards while advancing initiatives that contribute to a more sustainable future for Nigeria and Africa.

The bank noted that its sustainability strategy is anchored on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles, with investments in green initiatives, energy efficiency projects and community-focused programmes.

These efforts support key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 13 (Climate Action).

Zenith Bank said sustainability remains an operational priority across its Nigerian operations as well as its presence in Africa, the United Kingdom and Europe, reflecting its long-term commitment to responsible banking and environmental stewardship.
