Wike has dismissed 2027 presidential ambition rumours and declared loyalty to Tinubu till 2031.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports claiming that a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is pressuring him to contest the 2027 presidential election, describing the story as “another lie from idle minds who have nothing to contribute to the development of the country.”

In a statement issued on Friday by his media aide, Lere Olayinka, Wike reaffirmed his loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stressing that his political commitment remains with the President “till 2031.”

“As far as Wike is concerned, it is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu till 2031,” the statement read. “Those pushing such false narratives are only exposing their desperation and lack of ideas. They need better brains to think for them.”

Olayinka further clarified that the alleged meeting cited in the report purportedly held by PDP leaders to “push” Wike’s presidential bid never took place.

According to him, the only meeting that actually held on August 20, 2025, involved PDP stakeholders from the southern region, convened to deliberate on issues relating to the party’s internal zoning arrangements, ahead of another meeting in Lagos.

The spokesman explained that the details of that meeting were publicly released in a joint press statement signed by PDP leaders from the South, including state chairmen of Imo, Abia, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers States — Austin Nwachukwu, Abraham Amah, Venatius Ikem, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Akpan, and Aaron Chukwuemeka. Other signatories included Hon. Chidiebere Egwu Goodluck, Hon. O.K. Chinda, Senators Mao Ohuabunwa, George Sekibo, Mike Ama Nnachi, and Rt. Hon. Onwe S. Onwe.

“The above names were mischievously lifted from that press statement to advance a baseless rumour. But Wike’s record is clear — he operates in the open and says what he means,” Olayinka said.

He reaffirmed that Wike’s focus remains on advancing President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and delivering world-class infrastructure to transform the FCT.

“To ensure the success of the President’s reelection, Wike will continue to deliver on the Renewed Hope Agenda by actualising the President’s vision of a capital city that can compete globally in terms of infrastructure and livability,” the statement added.
