“In Mathematics, 85,805 candidates were graded. The overall pass rate is 81,172 (94.60 per cent), while 4,633 (5.40 per cent) failed. In 2024, 60,849 candidates (91.39 per cent) passed and 5,738 (8.61 per cent) failed,” Mohammed said.

Candidate Registration and Performance Overview

A total of 92,875 candidates registered for the examinations, reflecting a 37.08% increase in enrolment from the previous year. Of these, 89,621 candidates (96.50%) were graded. Examination centres also increased by 10.77% compared to 2024.

Gender distribution showed 57,651 males (62.07%) and 35,224 females (37.93%).

In English Language, 85,476 candidates were graded, with 79,575 (93.10%) passing, while 5,901 (6.90%) failed. However, performance in English declined slightly compared to 2024, when 63,866 candidates (95.87%) passed.

Reduction in Examination Malpractice

The Registrar also reported a decrease in cases of examination malpractice. In 2025, 435 candidates (0.47%) were involved in 516 malpractice cases, compared to 349 candidates (0.52%) in 524 cases in 2024.

Government Support and Skills Development

Dr. Mohammed commended the Federal Ministry of Education for supporting Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), emphasizing the alignment of NABTEB’s work with national development goals and the Tinubu administration’s vision of equipping Nigerian youths with 21st-century skills. He urged Nigerians to prioritize practical skills over paper qualifications, noting that skills-based knowledge is critical to national development.

Upcoming Examinations and Syllabus Reforms

Registration for the 2025 November/December NBC/NTC and Advanced NBC/NTC examinations is now open. Prospective candidates are advised to visit the NABTEB registration portal at novdec.nabteb.gov.ng or any NABTEB office nationwide.

NABTEB has also initiated a major review and validation of 26 trade syllabi for technical colleges across Nigeria. The revised curriculum includes traditional trades such as Motor Vehicle, Electrical Installation, Welding and Fabrication, Plumbing, and Fashion Design, as well as emerging disciplines like robotics, coding, machine learning, automotive mechatronics, smart agriculture, cinematography, and renewable energy.

The board aims to train educators, develop new assessment tools, and enforce quality assurance measures to ensure effective implementation. This represents the first major syllabus revision in over a decade, designed to enhance graduate employability, deepen practical training, and strengthen Nigeria’s TVET system.

This announcement underscores NABTEB’s commitment to advancing vocational education and equipping Nigerian youths with the practical skills necessary to succeed in both traditional and emerging industries.
