Kenneth Okonkwo has accused APC of using security agencies and thugs to intimidate opposition ahead of 2027 elections.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Nollywood actor and politician Kenneth Okonkwo has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of using intimidation tactics and state-backed harassment to destabilise opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Monday, October 27, 2025, the former Labour Party national officer and now chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) alleged that the APC was deploying both security operatives and political thugs to suppress rival parties’ activities across Nigeria.

“ADC is on fire. The only thing is that we have an APC that is using every method to intimidate and scatter the plans of the opposition,” Okonkwo said.

He claimed that ADC meetings in Kaduna, Lagos, and Ekiti States were violently disrupted by suspected thugs allegedly operating under the protection of security agencies.

According to Okonkwo, the disruptions are part of a larger, coordinated plan by the ruling party to silence dissent and weaken opposition coalitions ahead of the 2027 polls.

“There have been repeated attacks on our meetings across states,” he said. “It is unfortunate that security agencies, who should protect all political actors equally, are being used to frustrate the opposition.”

The actor-turned-politician accused the APC of manipulating state institutions to entrench power, warning that such practices undermine democracy and violate the Electoral Act, which guarantees equal protection and political freedom for all parties.

“The APC is using every arm of government to frustrate others. It’s against the provisions of the Electoral Act that every political party should enjoy equal protection,” Okonkwo stated.

He argued that the ruling party’s alleged clampdown on opposition activities reflects fear and desperation over its declining popularity.

Despite the mounting intimidation, Okonkwo expressed optimism about the ADC’s chances in 2027, insisting that the party is building a strong grassroots movement that will “defeat a collapsing APC.”

“ADC is going to form the next government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We are strategizing, and we are going to beat this APC,” he declared. “They are already imploding because all these endorsements are just an amalgamation of sycophants.”

Okonkwo called on Nigerians to resist political oppression and support parties committed to transparency, justice, and true democratic reform.
