FG is set to add 60.82MW Solar Power to national grid and began 13.92MW Hybrid Mini-Grid Project in Yobe.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Federal Government has intensified efforts to boost electricity supply by injecting a cumulative 60.82 megawatts (MW) of solar-generated power into Nigeria’s national grid, as it commenced the construction of a 13.92 megawatt-peak (MWp) interconnected hybrid solar mini-grid in Yobe State.
The latest project is part of the government’s broader strategy to expand renewable energy infrastructure and improve electricity access across the country amid persistent power supply challenges.
Before the Yobe project, the Federal Government had already developed 46.9MW of solar power infrastructure across five states.

The completed projects include a 20MW mini-grid in Egume, Kogi State, an 11.9MWp interconnected hybrid mini-grid in Ogu-Bolo, Rivers State, and a 10MW solar installation in Kofare, Adamawa State.
In addition, work had earlier commenced on a 3.5MW mini-grid in Ambursa, Kebbi State, and a 1.5MW project in Pankshin, Plateau State.
With the commencement of the 13.92MWp Yobe project, the Federal Government’s renewable energy projects now account for a cumulative 60.82MW of planned and completed solar power generation.
Speaking on the development, the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Abba Abubakar Aliyu, said the interconnected hybrid mini-grids are designed to integrate seamlessly with existing electricity distribution networks while driving economic development.
“We are creating an environment where businesses can grow, young people can innovate, farmers can process more of what they produce, healthcare facilities can provide better services, and local economies can flourish,” Aliyu said.
Nigeria has long grappled with inadequate electricity generation, producing less than 6,000MW for a population exceeding 250 million, despite decades of investments in the power sector.
The Federal Government hopes that expanding renewable energy projects across the country will improve electricity access, support economic growth, and reduce dependence on the overstretched national grid.
