INEC has postponed the controversial nationwide voter revalidation exercise.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the postponement of its proposed nationwide voter revalidation exercise.

The decision was reached following a meeting between the Commission and the Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) held on Friday, April 10.

After deliberations, the electoral body resolved to shift the exercise until after the 2027 Nigerian General Election.

In a statement signed by INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, the Commission described the voter revalidation exercise as a key component of its mandate to maintain a credible and updated National Register of Voters.

According to the statement, the exercise is designed to verify and review existing voter records, ensure the accuracy of personal data, eliminate duplicate or ineligible entries, and strengthen the overall integrity of the voter register.

The Commission also explained that the process would allow registered voters to confirm their personal details and make necessary corrections where required.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections across Nigeria.
