Defence Intelligence Chief is set to meet Service Chiefs over alleged coup plot as Tinubu awaits briefing.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI) and Chairman of the Special Investigative Panel, Major General Emmanuel Undiendeye, is expected to meet with the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and other service chiefs in the coming days to determine the next line of action in the ongoing probe into the alleged coup attempt by some military officers.

According to security sources who spoke with Premium Times, the meeting will review the panel’s preliminary findings and decide the framework for trials and disciplinary measures.

“The President will also be briefed,” one source confirmed, adding that President Bola Tinubu is closely monitoring the developments and has requested detailed updates on the investigation.

Sources revealed that military officers implicated in the alleged coup will first face court martials before possible civil proceedings, while any civilian collaborators will be prosecuted in civil courts.

“Military officers among the suspects will first face court martials before possible civil proceedings, while civilians implicated in the alleged plot will be tried in civil courts,” a senior official disclosed.

Earlier reports indicated that 16 senior military officers were arrested in connection with the failed coup attempt after intelligence suggested they were holding secret meetings aimed at overthrowing the government.

Among those detained are 14 Army officers, one from the Navy, and one from the Air Force. The identities of newly arrested suspects have not yet been disclosed.

The arrests, which took place in late September, have since triggered an expanded investigation involving both active-duty and retired personnel suspected of complicity.

Defence Headquarters Set to Address Nation

Although the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) earlier issued a brief statement about the alleged coup, multiple sources now say a comprehensive update will soon be released to the public.

“In the coming days, the Defence Headquarters is likely to issue a detailed statement on the findings from the ongoing investigation,” one insider said.
