Oyo School Kidnap Suspects

Court has sentenced three Oyo School Kidnap suspects to life imprisonment for terrorism links.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that three men standing trial over the kidnapping of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State have been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Justice Salim Ibrahim handed the life sentences to Abdulrazak Umar, also known as Abu Khalifa/Abu Khalid; Yunusa Musa, also known as Yunusa Bin Musa; and Shamsu Adamu Sani, also known as Abu Itisar, after they admitted to being members of a proscribed terrorist group.

The Department of State Services (DSS) had arraigned the trio on a 10-count charge bordering on terrorism, kidnapping, concealment of terrorist activities, incitement and other related offences linked to the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State.

Although the defendants were initially charged on 10 counts, they pleaded guilty to counts 4 and 6, among others, admitting to concealing information about the activities of the terrorists responsible for the school abduction.

Delivering judgment, Justice Ibrahim convicted the three defendants and sentenced each of them to life imprisonment for concealing knowledge of the terrorists’ operations and for their association with the proscribed group.

The case stems from the mass abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area, one of the most high-profile school kidnapping incidents in the country.

More details shortly.
