2027 Presidential Ticket Under ADC Coalition

Tensions is currently rocking ADC Coalition as Atiku and Obi camps clash over 2027 Presidential Ticket.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the newly formed opposition coalition, which recently adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform for the 2027 general elections, is reportedly facing internal cracks, with two major factions emerging, one backing former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the other rooting for former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi.

According to Daily Sun, a third, smaller camp is said to be lobbying for former Rivers State governor, Chibuike Amaechi, to clinch the party’s presidential ticket.

Supporters of Atiku believe his financial strength and political network across all six geopolitical zones give him a clear edge in any primary election format, whether direct or indirect. Sources reveal that Atiku’s camp had, as far back as May, offered Obi the vice-presidential slot on a joint ticket, a proposal Obi has yet to formally respond to.

A source close to Atiku’s camp said: “It would be in the interest of the South East if Obi agrees to be Atiku’s VP, just like in 2019. Atiku would serve one term and hand over to him. That guarantees the South East the presidency.”

However, Peter Obi’s supporters are pushing for a consensus candidacy from the coalition that would produce a president from the South East, arguing that such a move would affirm the coalition’s commitment to fairness and national equity.

Obi, a former Labour Party presidential candidate, has reportedly kept his options open. During a recent discussion on social media platform X, he said he would be willing to accept a single term if chosen as the coalition’s flag bearer, pledging to use the term to reposition Nigeria.

A close source to the former Anambra governor added: “He hasn’t ruled out any option — not even the VP slot. But he’s strategically positioned to respond depending on how the coalition proceeds.”

Meanwhile, the Obidient Movement insists Obi remains the most viable candidate with nationwide appeal to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027, stressing that his support base goes far beyond ethnic or regional boundaries.

As the coalition continues to gain national attention, its ability to unite behind a single candidate could determine the future of Nigeria’s political landscape.
