President Tinubu Government has reaffirmed the January takeoff date for student loan in Nigeria.

 

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that President Bola Tinubu’s Government through  Dr Yusuf Tanko Sununu, the Minister of State for Education, has affirmed that the Student Loan Scheme approved in June will begin in January 2024.

 

This Nigeria news platform understands that Sununu reaffirmed the President Tinubu Federal Government’s commitment during an appearance on Arise TV on Thursday morning.

According to reports, the Federal Government had budgeted N50 billion for the execution of its student loan system in 2024. This was stated in the budget appropriation information for 2024.

 

In response to questions about the student loan programme, which is planned to commence in January 2024, Sununu stated: “I want to tell you that we are on track. The committee is working day in and day out. The whole thing is going to be online, not through physical access. A website that will make for easy access is being developed.”

 

NewsOnline Nigeria recalls that President Tinubu underlined the validity of the student loan plan as a method of financing tertiary education and increasing public access to higher learning during the 29th National Economic Summit in November.
