NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has explained why manager Michael Carrick left him on the bench throughout the club’s Premier League clash against Bournemouth last month.
Fernandes was an unused substitute as United suffered a 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth.
The decision came amid reports of tension between the Portuguese midfielder and Carrick after Fernandes criticised the manager’s tactics during their Champions League encounter against Como.
However, speaking after Manchester United’s 3-2 Champions League victory over AS Roma on Tuesday, Fernandes addressed the situation and explained why he was dropped from the starting lineup.
“The manager took a decision of making myself be on the bench because I wasn’t performing. That’s fair,” Fernandes told CBS Sports Golazo when asked about his relationship with Carrick.
Fernandes will now turn his attention to United’s next fixture against Aston Villa this weekend as he looks to help the team secure another victory.
