NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Barcelona captain Raphinha has expressed deep sadness following the death of Tenerife attacker Jesús De Miguel.
The Brazilian made the emotional remarks while speaking to CBS Sports after Barcelona’s 3-0 victory over Aston Villa in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.
De Miguel died on Tuesday, a day after suffering a cardiac arrest following a serious collision with Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono, who had rushed off his line during the incident.
Reacting to the news, Raphinha offered his condolences to the late player’s family and said he was too upset to discuss football.
“Today I’m very sad. I don’t want to speak about football. I apologise to you,” Raphinha said.
“I would like to send strength to Jesús’ family, who today woke up to very sad news, the news of his passing.
“He was a player who was the same age as me. I don’t know if that is why it affected me more.”
