NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has praised manager Michael Carrick’s substitutions following the club’s 3-2 Champions League victory over AS Roma on Tuesday.
Schmeichel highlighted the impact of five players who came off the bench during the encounter at Old Trafford: Youri Tielemans, Lisandro Martínez, Shea Lacey, Matthijs de Ligt and Mason Mount.
Manchester United staged an impressive comeback after falling 2-0 behind, with Bruno Fernandes scoring once and Matheus Cunha netting twice to secure all three points for the hosts.
Speaking on CBS Sports Golazo, Schmeichel contrasted Carrick’s substitutions against Roma with those he made in Saturday’s match against Chelsea.
“Michael on Saturday vs. Chelsea made some substitutions that unfortunately did not have any kind of impact on the game,” Schmeichel said.
“Today, he made substitutions [Youri Tielemans, Lisandro Martínez, Shea Lacey, Matthijs de Ligt and Mason Mount] that made an impact.”
Manchester United will now turn their attention to their next Premier League fixture against Aston Villa this weekend.
