The Lagos State Chapter of the Labour Party has disclosed why the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) omitted the name of its Lagos governorship candidate from its register for the 2023 election.

Newsonline reports that the Lagos State Labour Party chairman, Olukayode Salako, said late submission of names of candidates of the party by the former state chairman was responsible, while assuring supporters that legal options are being put up to ensure inclusion.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) list published on September 1 showed that LP Lagos State candidates’ names for different positions were missing from the candidates’ register.

Giving clarification on what was responsible for the omission, Salako said “The former chairman of the party, Ifagbemi Awamaridi, did not present the names. He went there (INEC) late and the window closed. We are considering the court option and we will soon have the names of our candidates in the process. It is through the courts that our candidates will be uploaded (on INEC’s website).”

He further added, “Whether we campaign or not, the Labour Party is forming the next government in Lagos. This is because Lagos residents and Nigerians as a whole are looking for a fresh platform where Nigeria will be run better for the generality of the citizens. There is a revolution going on in the hearts of people; people are tired of the APC, and that revolution is already campaigning for us.”
