NewsOnline Nigeria reports that United States lobbying firm retained by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has disclosed that it has submitted documents relating to historical allegations involving President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to members of President Donald Trump’s administration and senior staff in the US Congress.

The firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, made the disclosure in a statement posted on its official X account.

According to the firm, the documents were shared following engagements with officials in the Trump administration, members of Congress, and senior congressional staff.

It stated that the materials include more than 60 pages of documents from the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) relating to allegations concerning Tinubu’s alleged involvement in a heroin trafficking investigation dating back to the late 1980s and early 1990s.

The lobbying firm said many officials within the US government were previously unaware of the historical DOJ allegations and that it was working to ensure the information received broader attention.

“Following discussions with members of the @realDonaldTrump Administration, Congress, and senior congressional staff, we began providing more than 60 pages of @TheJusticeDept documents concerning the DOJ’s allegations of Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s (@officialABAT) alleged involvement in a heroin trafficking investigation spanning the late 1980s and early 1990s,” the statement read.

The firm added that it intends to ensure President Trump receives the full collection of DOJ court filings, supporting affidavits, and related federal court decisions.

It also noted that, for now, it has only made public a chronology summarising the historical DOJ allegations.

According to the firm, its efforts are intended to draw attention to the issue, citing the impact of drug trafficking on communities in the United States.

The lobbying firm was reportedly engaged by Atiku Abubakar under a 12-month contract valued at $1.2 million.

President Tinubu has previously denied wrongdoing in relation to past allegations, while no US court has convicted him of drug trafficking. The documents referenced by the lobbying firm relate to historical court filings and allegations that have been publicly reported over the years.
