President Tinubu has conferred a Posthumous National Honours on four Ogoni Heroes.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that President Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday, honoured four late Ogoni leaders with posthumous national awards during a ceremony at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.

Tinubu conferred the awards while receiving the Ogoni Consultations Report from the Dialogue Committee led by Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

Calling for reconciliation and unity, the president urged the Ogoni people to put decades of division behind them.

“May their memories continue to inspire unity, courage and purpose among us. I urge the Ogoni people across classes, communities and generations to close ranks, put this dark chapter behind us and move forward as a united community with one voice,” Tinubu said.

He also praised the people of Ogoniland for supporting his administration’s plan to resume oil production in the region.

“I am encouraged by the overwhelming consensus of the Ogoni communities to welcome the resumption of oil production. The government will deploy every resource to support your people in this march towards shared prosperity,” he added.

Earlier this year, the Minister of Regional Development, Abubakar Momoh, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the development of Ogoniland, highlighting efforts to promote peace and economic growth.

As part of inclusivity, Tinubu recently signed into law the establishment of the Federal University of Environment in Ogoniland, while directing the National Security Adviser (NSA) to facilitate reconciliation among various factions in the area.
