ADC has decried alleged freeze of Osun Government Funds and accused FG of ‘Political Terrorism’.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the reported freezing of statutory allocations to local governments in Osun State, describing the action as “political terrorism” and accusing the Federal Government of weaponising public funds ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, on Wednesday, the opposition party said the political standoff in Osun had gone beyond politicians, warning that ordinary residents were now bearing the brunt of the crisis.

According to the ADC, funds meant for the payment of workers’ salaries, primary healthcare, education and other essential grassroots services remain tied up in the dispute, thereby affecting the welfare of citizens.

The party also alleged that the Federal Government was tolerating the continued occupation of local government councils by unelected loyalists of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while claiming that recent arrests of opposition figures were part of efforts to destabilise the state ahead of the election.

“This is pure political terrorism. Political opponents are not enemy combatants. Opposition-controlled states are not occupied territories. Public institutions do not belong to whichever party temporarily controls the federal government,” the statement read.

The ADC argued that withholding statutory allocations to local governments amounted to using public welfare as a political bargaining tool, warning that essential public services had become casualties of partisan rivalry.

“This sinister move confirms that the Tinubu-led Federal Government will do anything, including starving the people of Osun State, to achieve its political objectives. Yet no democracy worthy of the name deliberately sacrifices the welfare of innocent citizens in pursuit of partisan political ends,” the party added.

The statement comes amid heightened political tension in Osun State ahead of the governorship election, with opposition parties raising concerns over actions they believe could undermine the democratic process.
