The Ogun State Police Command has warned political parties and their candidates against the use of stickers containing party logos and candidates to cover vehicles’ plate numbers.
Newsonline reports that the command said some politicians have developed it as a campaign strategy thereby making it difficult for security agencies to identify the registration number of such vehicles.
The Police warned that all vehicles must have their plate numbers must be visible and should not be covered with either the All Progressives Congress (APC) or Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or any other political party’s sticker.
Ogun Police Command gave the warning in a statement on Monday, stating that the practice which has become rampant among politicians shows the politicians have criminal intentions.

The statement further warned that the state command has given order to all Area Commanders and District Police Officers to immediately effect clampdown on such vehicles and arrest politicians involved.
The statement read, “Ogun state Police Command has observed with concern that in recent times, some politicians have been in the habit of covering their vehicles’ number plates with the stickers of their various political parties thereby making it difficult for security agents to identify the registration number of such vehicles.
“This practice is inconsistent with the best practices all over the world, and it’s not going to be tolerated here in Ogun State.
“Every vehicle needs to be identified with its number plate, and for anybody to cover such number plates means that the person is having a criminal intention.
“The Command is hereby using this medium to warn those involved in this practice to desist from it henceforth, as standing order has been given to Area commanders and DPOs to clamp down on such violators.
“There is nowhere in the road traffic act, where the sticker of political party or any other sticker is allowed to be used in place of number plates. Therefore, anybody caught in such act will be dealt with in accordance with the law. To be warned is to be armed.”
