NNPC Alleges Coordinated Sabotage Campaign Against Leadership and Reform Agenda

NNPC has alleged a coordinated sabotage campaign against leadership and reform agenda.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has raised alarm over what it describes as a coordinated and deliberate campaign to undermine its leadership and derail ongoing reform efforts aimed at promoting transparency and accountability within the organisation.

In a statement issued on Friday, NNPC management accused a syndicate comprising both internal and external actors of orchestrating a misinformation drive to discredit its leadership and distract the public from its transformation agenda.

“NNPC Ltd. has uncovered an emerging coordinated sabotage campaign being waged by a syndicate of known and faceless actors, both outside and within various levels of the organisation,” the statement read.

According to the company, the campaign includes the circulation of “scandalous and fabricated reports” aimed at misleading the public and weakening confidence in the reforms initiated under the current administration.

“Their tactics include planting scandalous and fabricated reports curated to distract leadership, mislead the public, and undermine the commitment of our dedicated workforce and reform-minded Nigerians,” the statement added.

NNPC described the efforts as a reaction from individuals and interest groups unsettled by its ongoing transformation, which aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s agenda to combat corruption and enhance performance in the oil and gas sector.

“This is a calculated attempt to obstruct the transformation of Nigeria’s foremost energy institution,” the company noted. “We anticipate an increase in defamatory content in the coming days and weeks, but we remain undeterred. The transformation is underway, and no amount of sabotage will stop it.”

The company urged staff, stakeholders, and patriotic Nigerians to stay focused and disregard distractions aimed at derailing the momentum of its reforms.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the statement comes amid mounting scrutiny from the National Assembly. On Thursday, the Senate Committee on Public Accounts issued a 10-day ultimatum to NNPC to respond to audit queries concerning a reported ₦210 trillion discrepancy in its financial records from 2017 to 2023.

The committee, chaired by Senator Aliyu Wadada, warned of constitutional consequences should NNPC fail to provide satisfactory responses within the specified period.
