Nigerians In Diaspora Pledge $150m, N100bn For Peter Obi By Crowdfunding

He gave a hint that the tech Nigerians are organizing themselves to fund Peter Obi and help the Labour Party set up the structures.

The Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi may have reaped a lot of blessings from his diaspora engagements, as Nigerians in Diaspora are organizing $150 million and N100 billion crowdfunding to help him win the 2023 election.

 

Newsonline reports that in a boost to ensure that the presidential ambition of the former Anambra State governor, does not suffer financial difficulty, Nigerians in Diaspora said the crowdfunding would help the Labour Party and Peter Obi put all necessary structures on the ground.

 

Recall that Peter Obi had since Monday been engaging Nigerians in Diaspora on his plans for the country if elected the president come 2023 election.

 

From Frankfurt in Germany, to Rome in Italy, on Thursday, Peter Obi was in London, from where he flew to Toronto in Canada, then to Houston, California in the United States.

 

The Labour Party candidate in a series of tweets pledged to give credible leadership and promised that by 2027, the diaspora would have the right to vote.

 

A source who is among the organizers of the crowdfunding for the Labour Party presidential candidate told This Day that the funding of $150 million would be from Nigerians in diaspora, while the N100 billion will be from Nigerians at home.

He said Nigerians in tech both in the country and outside the country believe in Peter Obi’s competence to deliver the country from corruption and bad leadership.

 

He gave a hint that the tech Nigerians are organizing themselves to fund Peter Obi and help the Labour Party set up the structures.

 

He said, “They are organizing themselves into small committees and groups to contribute small amounts in a major effort to help Obi’s Campaign establish structure and presence around the country. Interestingly while some of their parents are either supporters of PDP or APC, they are rooting for Peter Obi.”

 

Aisha Yesufu, a human rights activist had been at the forefront of the mobilization of funds for Peter Obi’s presidential ambition.

 

According to Aisha, a total of N150 billion would be needed to finance the Labour Party presidential candidate.

 

Peter Obi is contesting along with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Atiku Abubakar and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
