Nigeria-Canada Investment Conference

President Tinubu has named Gbajabiamila and five Governors for Nigeria-Canada Investment Conference.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that President Bola Tinubu has approved a high-level Federal Government delegation to represent Nigeria at the inaugural Nigeria Diaspora Investment Economic Conference in Toronto, Canada.

The President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, will lead the delegation to the conference, scheduled for August 12 to 15, 2026.

The event, themed “Invest Nigeria, Thrive Abroad,” is expected to bring together government officials, investors, business leaders and members of the Nigerian diaspora to explore investment opportunities and strengthen economic relations between Nigeria and Canada.

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission announced the delegation in a statement issued by its Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun.

Five governors named as members of the delegation are Babagana Zulum of Borno State, Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State, Uba Sani of Kaduna State, Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State and Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State.

The delegation also includes Foreign Affairs Minister Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Jumoke Oduwole and Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

Officials and representatives from several government institutions are also expected to attend. These include the Central Bank of Nigeria, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Revenue Service, Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission, Nigeria Export Promotion Council and the National Information Technology Development Agency.

NiDCOM said the broad composition of the delegation reflected the Federal Government’s coordinated approach to attracting investment, facilitating international trade and engaging Nigerians living abroad.

Senior Canadian officials expected at the conference include President of the Treasury Board of Canada Shafqat Ali, Ontario Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism Graham McGregor and Ontario lawmaker Deepak Anand.

Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown, Councillor Rod Power and Ontario Minister of Women and Economic Opportunities Charmaine Williams are also expected to participate.

NiDCOM Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Abike Dabiri-Erewa said the level of government representation demonstrated Tinubu’s commitment to expanding economic cooperation between Nigeria and Canada.

According to her, the conference is intended to move beyond discussions by connecting international investors with viable opportunities in key sectors of the Nigerian economy.

She described the event as an outcome-focused investment platform capable of strengthening trade, encouraging diaspora participation and deepening bilateral economic relations.

The conference is being organised by NiDCOM in partnership with the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa, the Canadian High Commission in Abuja and other national and international stakeholders.

Discussions will focus on agriculture, technology, manufacturing, infrastructure, energy, healthcare and the digital economy.

Organisers said the conference would provide opportunities for investors, policymakers and members of the Nigerian diaspora to develop partnerships and identify projects capable of supporting job creation and sustainable economic growth.

The event is the first Federal Government investment conference of its kind organised through NiDCOM to connect Nigeria’s diaspora community with investment-ready opportunities at home.
