Hajia Rukayyah Aledeh, mother of Gatekeepers News Publisher Sulaiman Aledeh and matriarch of the Aledeh family, has died.
Her eldest child, Hon. Hud Aledeh, announced her death in a statement issued on behalf of the family on Saturday, August 8, 2026.
The family expressed submission to the will of Allah and appealed to friends, relatives and well-wishers to remember the deceased in their prayers while supporting the family during its period of mourning.
Hajia Aledeh was described by those close to her as a beloved mother and grandmother whose influence extended across generations. Her death has been deeply felt by her children, grandchildren, relatives, friends and associates.
Her son, Sulaiman Aledeh, is a veteran Nigerian journalist and broadcaster with more than two decades of experience in radio and television.
He has anchored programmes for Channels Television, TVC, Arise News and Classic FM. He also served as Managing Director of the Edo Broadcasting Service.
Following the announcement, condolences have poured in from members of the Nigerian media community, colleagues, friends and members of the public.
In accordance with Islamic tradition, the Janazah prayer for Hajia Aledeh was scheduled to hold immediately after Zuhr Salah at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 9, 2026.
The prayer was scheduled for Ibadurrahman Masjid, Lucky Igbinedion Way, Ikpoba Hill, Benin City, Edo State.
The family prayed that Allah forgive Hajia Aledeh’s sins, overlook her shortcomings and grant her eternal rest. It also asked that her grave be illuminated, expanded and made “a garden from the gardens of Paradise.”
The statement included prayers for the deceased to be granted the highest place in Jannatul Firdaus. The family also sought patience, strength and fortitude to bear the loss.
Hajia Aledeh is survived by her children, grandchildren and a wide network of relatives and admirers who remember her as a devoted matriarch.
