1. The Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, says 50 decomposing corpses, including 20 headless bodies, as well as countless skeletons, were discovered by security operatives during a raid of the forest around the Lokpanta Cattle Market in the Umunneochi axis of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway. According to the governor, it was also discovered that the cattle market was being used by kidnappers as ransom-collection point.

2. The Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, Taiwo Oyedele, has assured Nigerians that the ongoing plan by the Federal Government to introduce new foreign exchange rules will reflect the true value of the naira. He also said the plan, which would include a crackdown on illicit currency trading, would result in naira closing its gap with the unofficial rate and reaching a “fair price” before the end of 2023.

3. Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has warned that the Boko Haram crisis may consume the nation if it is not contained. Speaking while hosting the reconstituted management board of the North-East Development Commission (NEDC) at the council chambers of the Borno State Government House in Maiduguri on Monday, he said the continuous existence of IDP camps in Local Government Areas of Borno is a potential time bomb.

4. The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the sum of N2,176,791,286,033 for the second 2023 supplementary appropriation. Atiku Bagudu, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, announced this on Monday while briefing State House reporters after the federal cabinet meeting presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

5. The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last election, Atiku Abubakar, says Nigeria is in trouble if the Supreme Court implies that crime should be rewarded. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the February 25 election, but Atiku rejected the result and headed for the court.

6. An elder statesman and leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Chief Edwin Clark, has said Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is behind the plot to impeach Rivers State Governor, Sam Fubara. According to him, Wike’s intention is to force Fubara’s deputy to resign after a successful impeachment and install the Speaker of the state House of Assembly as governor.

7. Rivers State was enveloped in confusion yesterday following moves by the House of Assembly to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The crisis between the governor and the divided House of Assembly, barely five months after their inauguration, was triggered by a cold war between Fubara and his benefactor, former Governor Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister.

8. The Federal Government and a German geo-scientific technology company – GeoScan GmbH, based in Berlin, have signed a pact that will stimulate the exploration of Nigeria’s mineral deposits worth more than $700 billion. Solid Minerals Development Minister Dele Alake, who broke the news, said the agreement is on the exploration and exploitation of mineral deposits in the country.

9. Reports emerged on Monday that a total of N21.1bn was spent on the procurement of vehicles for various ministries, departments and agencies within five months. These approvals, contained in a document obtained from the Bureau of Public Procurement, stated that 10 agencies got this disbursement between April and August 2023.

10. Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists, yesterday, invaded Beneshiekh town, the headquarters of Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State, and killed the Chief Imam, Sheihk Baba Goni Muktar Malumti. They also set ablaze some Islamic books belonging to the deceased.
