1. The governorship election petition tribunal sitting in Asaba, the Delta State capital, on Friday, dismissed the petition brought before it by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege. The tribunal presided over by Justice A.C. Ahuchaogu dismissed Omo-Agege’s petition for lack of merit.
2. The Speaker of Plateau State House of Assembly, Moses Sule has been sacked by the state election petition tribunal. Sule, who was elected on the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, platform in the last election, was sacked alongside Danjuma Azi, a member representing Jos North-West constituency in the assembly.
3. Former President Goodluck Jonathan has said that the current spate of coups across the African continent shows that democracy needs to be ”rejigged” and put in a proper direction. A Federal High Court in Kano on Friday ordered the Kano State Government to pay the Incorporated Trustees of Eid Grand Shop Owners the sum of N30 billion as compensation for the unlawful demolition of their properties. The judge, Samuel Amobeda, who gave the order, said the action of the Kano State Government against the applicants was barbaric and unconstitutional.
