NGX Market Cap has hit record ₦162.16tn as stocks extend seven-day rally.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) equity market capitalisation has crossed the ₦162 trillion mark for the first time, closing at a record ₦162.16 trillion on Friday as equities extended their upward run.
The new record surpassed the previous all-time high of about ₦161.8 trillion, recorded on May 13, 2026. The latest close represents a ₦2.27 trillion increase, or 1.42 per cent, from Thursday’s ₦159.89 trillion.
The NGX All-Share Index (ASI) also advanced by 3,489.18 points, rising 1.42 per cent from 246,315.38 points to 249,804.56 points.
The market’s latest gain extended its winning streak to seven consecutive sessions, with buying interest across several large- and mid-cap stocks supporting the rally.

Investors traded 525.99 million shares in 44,239 deals, according to the market report, although another market data source recorded the session volume at 520.99 million shares. The reported difference does not affect the closing market-capitalisation or ASI figures.
Among the major gainers, C&I Leasing Plc and FTG Insurance Plc both rose 10 per cent to close at ₦5.50 and ₦1.65 respectively.
MTN Nigeria Communications Plc (MTNN) was another major contributor to the day’s advance, gaining 9.20 per cent to close at ₦890 per share, up from ₦815.
Wema Bank Plc gained 9.03 per cent to close at ₦32, while First HoldCo Plc rose 8.11 per cent to ₦160. Other notable gainers included Secure Electronic Technology and Mutual Benefits Assurance.
On the declining side, Transcorp Power Plc fell 9.96 per cent to ₦178, making it the biggest loser for the session. Cadbury Nigeria Plc declined 9.32 per cent to ₦53, while Omatek Ventures Plc dropped 8.40 per cent to ₦1.20.
Sovereign Trust Insurance also declined 6.78 per cent to ₦2.20.
Trading activity was concentrated in several financial services and telecommunications stocks. Zenith Bank Plc recorded substantial turnover, while First HoldCo, Sterling Financial Holdings and Wema Bank also featured prominently among the actively traded equities. MTN Nigeria recorded about 3.77 million shares traded.
The financial services segment received support from gains in First HoldCo and several insurance stocks, while the ICT and telecommunications segment benefited significantly from MTN Nigeria’s price appreciation.
In the oil and gas sector, Eterna Plc gained 1.45 per cent to ₦35, while Oando Plc rose 0.44 per cent to ₦34. Aradel Holdings remained unchanged at ₦1,550.
The consumer goods sector recorded mixed performance. Dangote Sugar Refinery gained 1.63 per cent, while Cadbury Nigeria fell sharply by 9.32 per cent and Honeywell Flour Mill declined 2.50 per cent.
Market breadth was positive, with 36 equities gaining against 22 decliners, according to the closing report.
The latest performance further strengthens the NGX’s gains for the year, with market data showing the All-Share Index’s year-to-date return at about 60.53 per cent as of Friday’s close.
Outside the equities market, exchange-traded funds contributed additional trading activity, while activity in the bond segment remained relatively subdued.
The record market capitalisation reflects the combined market value of listed equities at prevailing prices; it does not, by itself, mean that ₦2.27 trillion in fresh cash entered the market.
