Ngige has made a demand from Tinubu Government over a new minimum wage.

NewsOnline reports that Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour and Employment, on Wednesday, urged the incoming administration of the President-Elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to review the current minimum wage of N30,000 presently obtainable in the country.

Ngige said that Nigeria’s minimum wage should be reviewed every five years to match the current standard of living in the country.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the minister also noted that he would add in his handover notes that the talk surrounding minimum wage should commence as soon as the new government is sworn-in in May 2023.

Ngige said, “It’s a tripartite negotiation involving the public sector, private sector and state governments. We are entrenched in that bill or law that minimum wage will now have an automaticity of review every five years.

“So, I am envisaging that as from May 2023, the government will empanel the new minimum wage review committee for the nation.

“In my handover note which I’m going to hand over to the transition committee and the next government, I’m recommending that the discussions start anytime from May 2023.”
