NGOs On Tax Matters In Lagos

Speaking during the training, Mr. Johnannes O. Wojuola, Special Assistant (Media) to the Executive Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) noted that the importance of tax payment by the citizenry into the government coffers cannot be overemphasized.

Highlighting the roles of CSOs and NGOs towards a developed nation through tax payment, Johnannes charged Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) And Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) on creating awareness and mobilizing taxpayers through coalitions with other non-state actors on sub-national, national, or even international levels to improve the tax administration in Nigeria.

Furthermore, Mr. Femi Olarinde, TA to the Executive Chairman, FIRS who facilitated the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) And Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) on “Understanding Tax Administration In Nigeria and The Role of CSOs“, described tax as a compulsory financial charge or levy imposed on a taxpayer (individual or legal entity) by the government to fund public spending.

While noting that the government needs taxpayers’ money to continue to fund public institutions such as hospitals, railways, roads, and education among others, Mr. Femi charged CSOs and NGOs on facilitating participation in tax education and supporting demands for transparency and accountability and to always engage with state actors to enhance responsiveness to taxpayer concerns using collaborative approaches.

Mr. Femi Olarinde also answered questions from Journalists, CSOs, and NGOs after his lecture.

Newsonline Nigeria reports that Augustine Aminu; CEO Stand up Nigeria and Mr. Albert Folorunsho; CEO Pedabo Consulting among other CSOs and NGOs attended the event.
