JAMB Commences Sale Of Direct Entry Forms: Registration Open Until March 28, 2024

In a bid to provide equal opportunities for candidates seeking tertiary education in Nigeria, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially commenced the sale of direct entry forms. This announcement, made by JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, outlines the details of the registration process, emphasizing key dates and requirements.

According to the statement released on Tuesday, the registration process kicked off on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, and will remain open until Thursday, March 28, 2024. This registration window is available to both domestic and foreign candidates who aspire to pursue higher education through the direct entry mode.

The Board has laid down specific guidelines for prospective candidates, stating that applications from awarding institutions refusing to verify A’level certificates presented by some candidates for the 2023 admission will not be processed. This measure aims to maintain the integrity of the admission process.

“Candidates who are not awaiting results must have uploaded their A’ level qualifications, O level results, and DE registration template at the point of registration. No DE candidate would be processed for admission until such claimed results are uploaded and verified by the awarding institutions on the Board’s Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) mail platform,” the statement highlighted.

JAMB has also addressed the situation of Direct Entry candidates awaiting A’level results of IJMB/JUPEB/NABTEB, stating that these candidates must upload their admission letter and registration template during the registration process.

For applicants holding Cambridge certificates for the pre-2018 examination year, JAMB advises them to visit Cambridge directly for verification. This process may take up to 28 days, as specified by the awarding body, with the results forwarded to the Board.

The Board has introduced a window of opportunity for candidates to upgrade from UTME to Direct Entry. This option is available only to candidates whose DE results have not been released at the point of UTME registration, provided they indicated that they are awaiting A’level results.

JAMB reiterates its commitment to ensuring a level playing field for all candidates, regardless of their status. The Board’s emphasis on transparency and fairness underscores its dedication to maintaining the integrity of the admissions process.

Prospective candidates are encouraged to adhere to the stipulated guidelines and timelines to ensure a smooth and successful registration process. For further information and updates, candidates can visit the official JAMB website.

Reps Urge JAMB to Prolong UTME Registration Amid Economic Struggles

In response to the economic challenges faced by numerous families across the country, the House of Representatives has directed the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to extend the registration period for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) by an additional two weeks. This decision, reached during Thursday’s plenary session, aims to accommodate more potential candidates who have been unable to register due to financial constraints exacerbated by the current economic situation in Nigeria.

The motion for this urgent extension was presented by Hon. Hassan Shinkafi from Zamfara State, who emphasized the hardships faced by families trying to enroll their children or wards for the UTME within the initially stipulated timeframe. The UTME registration, which kicked off on January 15, concluded on February 26, leaving many families struggling to meet the deadline.

Hon. Shinkafi expressed concern over the challenges faced by non-IT compliant candidates, asserting that the online registration process posed a significant obstacle. He argued that the original deadline prevented a substantial number of eligible candidates from participating in the examination, thus hindering the achievement of the core objective of the UTME.

The lawmaker underscored the importance of a wider coverage and increased participation in this year’s UTME, stressing that an extension is essential to ensure that all interested candidates have an equal opportunity to register and be part of the examination process.

If the motion is implemented, the extension of the UTME registration period by two weeks is expected to alleviate the pressure on families grappling with economic difficulties, thereby fostering a more inclusive and comprehensive participation in the upcoming examination. The resolution reflects the House of Representatives’ commitment to addressing the diverse challenges faced by students amid the current economic climate in Nigeria.
