Identities of 16 Senior Officers Arrested Over Alleged Coup Plot Against Tinubu Exposed

Identities of 16 Senior Officers arrested over alleged coup plot against Tinubu has been exposed.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Nigerian military has uncovered the identities of sixteen senior officers currently under arrest for allegedly plotting to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

According to military sources who confirmed the development to Premium Times, fourteen of the suspects are from the Nigerian Army, while two others belong to the Navy and Air Force.

Among the arrested are a brigadier general, a colonel, four lieutenant colonels, five majors, two captains, one lieutenant, a naval lieutenant commander, and an air force squadron leader.

The alleged coup mastermind is identified as Brigadier General Musa Abubakar Sadiq, a senior infantry officer from Nasarawa State, previously detained in 2024 for the alleged diversion of palliatives and illegal sale of military hardware. He reportedly commanded key units in Kano and Lagos before his recent posting.

Other notable suspects include Colonel M.A. Ma’aji (Niger State), Lieutenant Colonel S. Bappah (Bauchi), Lieutenant Colonel A.A. Hayatu (Kaduna), Lieutenant Colonel P. Dangnap (Plateau), and Lieutenant Colonel M. Almakura (Nasarawa). Several of them served in sensitive infantry and communications units, raising questions about the depth of the network within the armed forces.

Also implicated are Major A.J. Ibrahim, Major M.M. Jiddah, Major M.A. Usman, Major D. Yusuf, Major I. Dauda, Captain Ibrahim Bello, Captain A.A. Yusuf, Lieutenant S.S. Felix, Lieutenant Commander D.B. Abdullahi of the Navy, and Squadron Leader S.B. Adamu of the Air Force.

Military insiders revealed that some of the suspects had previously faced disciplinary actions, including court-martials and internal investigations for misconduct, further deepening concerns about deteriorating morale and factionalism within the armed forces.

Despite the gravity of the accusations, neither the Defence Headquarters nor the Presidency has issued an official statement, fueling public speculation and unease within security circles.

Investigations are still ongoing to determine the scope of the alleged plot, the possible involvement of external actors, and whether any civilian collaborators were part of the scheme to destabilize the Tinubu administration.
