Google Search Trends has shown that Nigerians embrace self-improvement, entrepreneurship, and wellness in early 2026.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that as 2026 begins, Google Search data points to a strong national shift toward self-improvement, entrepreneurship, and healthier living among Nigerians.

Insights from the first two weeks of January reveal a 40 percent surge in searches related to self-development and “becoming better,” indicating that Nigerians are moving beyond routine New Year resolutions to intentionally plan personal and professional growth. From career advancement to education, Search is increasingly being used as a tool for success across multiple areas of life.

Entrepreneurship remains a defining force. “How to start a business” emerged as the most searched “how to start” query in early January, recording an 80 percent increase as Nigerians seek to launch new ventures and create economic opportunities. Other popular searches around new beginnings include starting a blog, launching a podcast, and opening a YouTube channel.

Personal development is also shaping social and family life. Searches for “how to be a good or better person” rose by 20 percent, alongside growing interest in becoming better partners, spouses, and listeners, highlighting a desire for stronger relationships and community bonds.

Health and wellness feature prominently in the 2026 outlook. Searches for “how to eat healthy” and “healthy diet” climbed by 40 percent, while interest in mental well-being gained traction, with “how to meditate” also recording a 40 percent spike.

The pursuit of mastery cuts across both work and leisure. Nigerians are increasingly searching for ways to improve communication skills, memory, and English proficiency, while also seeking to develop hobbies and talents ranging from chess and running to singing and gaming.

Commenting on the trends, Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, Communications and Public Affairs Manager for West Africa, said the data reflects Nigeria’s shared ambition and drive for growth. According to him, Google Search continues to serve as a cultural mirror, capturing the nation’s aspirations while providing tools from Search to Gemini that help Nigerians navigate daily life and build a more prosperous future.
