FG opens application portal to register Startups for Financial Support

FG has opened an application portal to register Startups in Nigeria for Financial Support.

 

Newsonline Nigeria reports that President Bola Tinubu Federal Government has launched an engagement portal to register startups in the country as part of implementing the Nigeria Startup Act. 

 

This Nigeria news platform understands that the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, announced this Tuesday night. The portal will also be used to engage with Venture Capital companies, hubs, and innovation centres, according to the Minister.

This development is coming a year after the Startup Act was signed into law by the immediate past President Muhammadu Buhari.  

 This groundbreaking initiative aims to provide incentives, structures, and programs that will propel the growth of Nigerian startups, create value, and lay the groundwork for exporting tech-enabled services.

Key Highlights of the Nigeria Startup Act 2022:

 

  1. Incentives for Growth:
    • The Act introduces a comprehensive set of incentives to stimulate the growth of startups, recognizing them as crucial contributors to the nation’s economic development.
  2. National Council for Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship:
    • A central aspect of the Act is the establishment of the National Council for Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship. This body is entrusted with aligning national policies for startup development and implementing programs that bolster tech-enabled startups in Nigeria.
  3. Tech-Enabled Services Export:
    • The Act positions Nigerian startups to venture into the global market by fostering an environment conducive to the export of tech-enabled services.

 

The Startup Support and Engagement Portal:

The newly launched portal serves as a hub for the identification and aggregation of Nigerian startups, venture capital companies, hubs, and innovation centers. Its primary objective is to facilitate engagement and support for all ecosystem players, fostering collaboration and synergy within the startup community.

    • The portal will play a pivotal role in initiating the setup of startup consultative forums. These forums will be instrumental in selecting representatives to the National Council for Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship, facilitating constructive discourse, and reaching consensus among Nigerian ecosystem players.
