Court has jailed Builderstech MD, Agene Johnson Godwin 48 years for ₦500m Investment Scam in Benue.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Federal High Court sitting in Makurdi, Benue State, has sentenced Agene Johnson Godwin, Managing Director of Builderstech Solution Ltd, to 48 years’ imprisonment over a massive investment fraud that duped thousands of Nigerians.

Justice M.S. Abubakar delivered the judgment after finding Godwin guilty on an amended eight-count charge instituted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to the court, the convict defrauded over 5,000 unsuspecting investors of more than ₦500 million through fraudulent investment schemes promoted under the name of Builderstech Solution Ltd.

Evidence presented by the prosecution showed that Godwin collected funds from members of the public under false pretences, luring them with promises of unusually high and unrealistic returns on investment. The court held that the schemes had no legitimate business backing and were designed solely to deceive investors.

In sentencing the defendant, Justice Abubakar imposed a cumulative jail term of 48 years without the option of a fine, describing the offences as grave and noting the devastating impact of the fraud on the victims.

The EFCC welcomed the conviction, reiterating its resolve to protect Nigerians from financial crimes. The anti-graft agency also cautioned members of the public to be vigilant and avoid investment schemes that promise guaranteed or excessively high returns, warning that such offers are often red flags for fraud.
