CCB has uncovered discrepancies after investigating 500 Asset Declarations of Public Officers.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has revealed that its Financial Investigation and Fraud Analysis Unit (FIFAU) has investigated over 500 asset declaration forms belonging to public officers across various levels of government.

The Bureau’s Chairman, Abdullahi Bello, disclosed this in Abuja during the presentation of his one-year stewardship, according to a statement by the Director of Special Duties, Moses Atolagbe.

Bello said the investigations exposed discrepancies that would lead to enforcement actions against defaulting officials, noting that the exercise aims to strengthen accountability and transparency in public service.

He stated that the Bureau has verified the asset declarations of nine ministers, 43 permanent secretaries, and 40 federal directors, adding that the verification process is ongoing.

To enhance efficiency, Bello announced that the Bureau has introduced an online asset declaration system, allowing public officers to download and submit Form-1 digitally, a move that has saved millions of naira in printing costs.

He further disclosed that 199 staff members have been trained in investigation, forensic analysis, and ethical governance, while new zonal offices have been established to support enforcement and intelligence operations.

The CCB, he said, is partnering with the EFCC, ICPC, DSS, NFIU, and foreign embassies to strengthen anti-corruption collaboration.

Reiterating the Bureau’s new motto, “Declare or Forfeit,” Bello urged public officers to comply fully with asset declaration laws, emphasizing that transparency is key to restoring public trust.

Bello, appointed by President Bola Tinubu on October 23, 2024, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to integrity and the fight against corruption.
