Zamfara House of Assembly Speaker, Moriki has been impeached.

The lawmakers, however, ratified Hon. Bashar Gummi as the pro-tempo Speaker.

This Nigeria news platform gathered that 18 out of 24 members unanimously agreed to impeach the Speaker during an emergency meeting on Thursday night.

This medium further learnt that the removal of the Speaker may not have been unconnected with the motion moved by one of the members representing Maru Constituency, Hon. Nasiru Abdullahi.

The lawmakers said that the Speaker’s impeachment followed the resurgence of insecurity as a result of the bandits’ persistent attacks on communities across the state.

NewsOnline Nigeria gathered that the impeached Speaker was out of the state for some days before his ouster.

According to Hon Shamsudeen Basko representing Talata Mafara, the lawmakers have told the new Speaker that the issue of insecurity was one of the key issues to be given top priority, which led to the impeachment of the former Speaker.

“I have two issues but an observation was made on one, which is that of insecurity, which has been disturbing Zamfara residents, some are being killed and abducted,” he added.

“We need to stand up and do something to defend our people because the armed bandits are invading local government headquarters unchallenged.

“Let us call on the government to act now to protect our people.”

Meanwhile, Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, is currently out of the state.
