Suspected bomb explosion rocked Mushin market in Lagos.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonated in a commercial area of Mushin, Lagos, leaving one person injured.

The incident occurred on Monday at the popular Shoe Materials Market in Mushin, prompting a swift response from security agencies.

Speaking to journalists at the scene, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Fatai Tijani, said police operatives and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) experts were immediately deployed after reports of the explosion were received.

According to the police commissioner, the device had been concealed beneath the passenger side of a vehicle and detonated when the vehicle was started.

“We received reports of an explosion and immediately sent our EOD unit to the scene. The area was quickly sealed off and thoroughly inspected,” Tijani said.

“The IED was placed under the passenger side of the vehicle. It exploded when the vehicle was started,” he added.

The police boss disclosed that one person sustained injuries in the blast and was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

He noted that the victim is currently receiving medical attention and is in stable condition.

Following the incident, security operatives conducted a comprehensive sweep of the area to determine whether additional explosive devices were present.

However, Tijani confirmed that no other explosives were discovered during the operation.

The commissioner urged traders, residents, and members of the public to remain calm, assuring them that the situation had been brought under control and that there was no immediate threat to public safety.

Authorities have commenced investigations to determine the source of the device and the circumstances surrounding the explosion.

The incident caused temporary panic within the busy market area, although normal activities gradually resumed after security officials secured the scene.
